Musicom in Detail
The Alberta Band Association’s official newsletter is continuing its online format. We are looking forward to continuing the programming that helps Alberta music teachers in their profession. Please take part in our 7–question ABA Spring Survey to keep us connected to your musical wants at Music Conference Alberta.
Moreover, the ABA would like to keep connected with our membership of dedicated and outgoing music teachers. Help us celebrate your success and events in your spring season by contacting Musicom [T: 1-877-687-4239]. We would love to feature local bands and music events in your community as they happen. This quarterly publication will be an excellent source for all educators involved within Alberta, along with Alberta Band Association projects.
Musicom would still like to feature Zone Reports. If you plan on hosting any events in your area concerning band concerts, band workshops, or other important music events that you would like to advertise to fellow band teachers, let us know and it can be published in the Summer Musicom issue. Are there any summer bands or workshops that you can let us help spread the word on?
Musicom also welcomes your contributions. If you have an article [or even an idea for one] that you would like to see published in Musicom, contact the ABA [T: 1-877-687-4239] for more information.

I’m sure this issue of Musicom finds you in the midst of festival and touring season, as well as preparing for end-of-school year concerts. Once that is all past, I wish you all a restful summer break, full of family, friends, and renewing pursuits.
Since our last issue we’ve completed successful programs such as the Southern Alberta Junior Honour Band [Feb. 13 – 15, 2013] in Calgary conducted by Victor Lopez, and the Northern Alberta Junior Honour Band [Feb. 27 – March 1, 2013] in Edmonton, conducted by Martin Kennedy. View our slide shows from these events.

Attendance was excellent again for both junior bands. Thanks to Junior Honour band chairs Tara English and Mark Leitz for their work and dedication.
The Alberta Honour Band audition deadline has been extended to Friday, May 10, 2013. The AHB is formed from outstanding auditioned high school band students from across the province and meets during Music Conference Alberta in Red Deer from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, 2013.
Our ABA Provincial Festival of Bands in Red Deer filled more quickly than usual and is currently fully subscribed from May 13 – 24, 2013. Thanks for your strong support of our festival!
I invite you to visit our ABA website. Click on the links to our many programs and services, including full access to the ABA Bruce Marsh Memorial Library – you can borrow pieces or scores to peruse through the summer as you begin to prepare for next year. All past honour band and junior honour band repertoire, as well as all ABA festival syllabus titles, are available from our lending library.
Best wishes for a productive remainder of the school year,
Ken Rogers
